The Reynolds Home

By Miguel Carrillo and Mario Gomez (M&M)
Picture
The Reynolds Home is a home for families who have exhausted their resources and have no alternative in living conditions. This home has been family operated for 26 years and counting. During these 26 years, they have helped over 1,700 families. Each family consisting of more than one person thus helping thousands of people. The home and its legacy have been passed down as a family project from thanksgiving 26 years ago. The Reynolds Home is solely supported by donations. The families taken in by Reynolds Home show up with nothing and obtain housing within the residence. They get assistance finding a job, medical support, and in some cases government help – all this under one roof.

While interviewing some of the children and adolescents, we identified some main internal and external areas of the Reynolds Home that are in need and which the community can contribute to address those issues. Members of the community may help the youth in the Reynolds Home through the contributions of tutors, team-building and leadership programs. By increasing the number of volunteers to fulfill the duty of being a tutor knowledgeable in the core subjects (Math, English, Science, History) will provide a way for the youth to succeed not only in the school environment, but be able to expand their overall knowledge in a vast manner. These are just some of the internal matters which the community can do to aid The Reynolds Home.

A few ways to help the Reynolds community externally are through encouraging recurrent donations, achieving the acquisition of a corporate sponsorship, and sustaining the provision of basic volunteers to tackle the issues of supplies, maintenance, and overall assistance with funding. By organizing community members who are willing to lend a hand will aid in a multitude of forms ranging from plain maintenance around the home to teaching and being a role model for the youth within the Reynolds Homes. Mainly through sponsorships and donations, the funding raised can be implemented to keep supplies from becoming depleted, provide support programs for families to ensure their overall success in accomplishing self-sufficiency and be useful to implement leadership/team-building platforms by which the children can ultimately benefit from.

Moreover, Reynolds Home has this untapped potential that with help of the community can become a home where individuals enduring tough times can get a grasp of friendship, family, and most importantly support in order to prosper.
